SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- The Bates College volleyball team went 1-1 at the Volleyball Hall of Fame Invitational on Saturday at Mount Holyoke College, losing to Gordon College 3-1 in the morning and topping Mount Holyoke 3-1 in the afternoon.
Bates (12-16, 2-5 NESCAC) lost to Gordon by scores of 30-27, 31-29, 20-30 and 24-30, despite 11 kills from sophomore Beth Billington (St. Paul, Minn.) and 10 more from first-year Liz Leberman (Concord, N.H.). Senior Katie Graeff (Chevy Chase, Md.) had 41 assists in the match.
The Bobcats rebounded with a win over the host Lyons, by game scores of 30-27, 30-12, 20-30 and 31-29. Leberman tallied 17 kills, while first-year Tess Dokus (Salem, Conn.) added 13 more. First-year Avery Masters (Mill Valley, Calif.) and junior Jenn Linton (Redding, Conn.) added 10 kills apiece, while Graeff tallied 54 assists.
The regular season concludes with a NESCAC Weekend at Wesleyan University this Friday and Saturday, when the Bobcats will face Trinity, Connecticut College and the host Cardinals.
