MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- The Bates College women's basketball rallied from a 10-point deficit in the first half and held off Wesleyan University down the stretch for a 69-58 NESCAC victory Saturday, dealing the Cardinals their first conference loss of the season.

The win gives the Bobcats (14-6, 5-1 NESCAC) a share of the conference lead with the Cardinals (13-5, 5-1).

Sophomore forward Matia Kostakis (Andover, Mass.) led Bates with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore Sarah Barton (Portsmouth, N.H.) added 13 points and eight assists. First-year Jackie Powers (Andover, Mass.) scored 11 points and junior Meg Coffin (Westford, Mass.) had nine points and eight rebounds.

The Bobcats opened up a 48-36 lead 4:30 into the second half. Wesleyan cut the Bates lead to one, 55-54, on a pair of Ali Fourney free throws, but failed to score on seven straight possessions as Bates re-established an eight-point edge at 64-56.
