Bobcat women bombard Babson for seventh consecutive win, 94-51

LEWISTON, Maine -- The Bates College women's basketball team breezed to an efficient 94-51 win over Babson College in a non-league game Tuesday night, scoring the team's most points in a game since December 2004.


Junior Meg Coffin (Westford, Mass.) led Bates with 22 points and nine rebounds. Senior reserve guard Kyla Decato (Paris, Maine) chipped in with a career-high 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting.

Caitlin Boulier led the Beavers (9-4) with 13 points. Suzy Ward added 11 for Babson, which turned the ball over 28 times and hit 20-of-48 shots from the floor (.417).

Bates (11-5) won its seventh straight game. The Bobcats shot .585 from the floor, the second time the team has hit over half of its shots this season, and committed only 11 turnovers, tying a season-best.

Bates hadn't scored more than 91 points since Dec. 10, 2004, when the Bobcats put up 109 points against UMaine-Presque Isle.

Babson was held in check all game long. The Beavers managed their 10th point over 12 minutes into the game, trailing 31-10. But Bates then began a 19-5 run for a 35-point lead before halftime. Head coach Jim Murphy used his bench extensively, playing all active team members for at least six minutes apiece and playing no one for more than 24 minutes.

First-year guard Jackie Powers (Ancover, Mass.) scored 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting for Bates, while sophomore forward Matia Kostakis (Andover, Mass.) scored 13 points with five rebounds. Sophomore Sarah Barton (Portsmouth, N.H.) had seven assists and four steals to go with five points.
