LEWISTON, Maine -- Meg Coffin scored 23 points on 11-of-14 shooting to lead the Bates College women's basketball team to a decisive 61-37 victory over Colby College in a NESCAC contest on Saturday.
Showing no dropoff from their upset win over No. 2 Bowdoin College the night before, the Bobcats (10-5, 2-0 NESCAC) led by as many as 21 points (32-11) in the first half, forcing 18 Colby (5-8, 0-2 NESCAC) turnovers and outshooting the Mules 51.7 percent to 29.2 percent over the first 20 minutes. For the game, Bates led the turnover battle 27-17, and shot 47.5 percent from the floor to Colby's 33.3 percent.
Colby junior Tracy Nale (Waterville, Maine) was the lone Mule in double figures, with 13 points to go with three steals. First-year Lauren Duval (Shrewsbury, Mass.) added eight points and a team-high six rebounds.
Coffin (Westford, Mass.) added a game-high eight rebounds and four steals in just 17 minutes of action. Sophomore Matia Kostakis (Andover, Mass.) contributed 16 points and four steals, while sophomore Sarah Barton (Portsmouth, N.H.), who entered the weekend ranked fourth in Division III in assists per game (6.9), dished out 10 assists to push her average to 7.1 per game.
Bates will host Babson College Tuesday at 5 p.m. in a non-league game. Colby will play at Gordon College in a non-league contest Wednesday at 6 p.m.
