GORHAM, Maine -- Bates College goalkeeper Sarah Judice (Granby, Conn.) earned a shutout to cap off a terrific weekend for herself and the Bobcats field hockey team, with a 3-0 victory at the University of Southern Maine on Sunday.

Judice made six saves before giving way to Katie Smarse (Lincoln, N.H.) in the final minute of the game. The day before, the Bates senior made 17 saves and allowed just one goal as the Bobcats scored a 2-1 overtime upset win over Wesleyan.

"Sarah has played huge for us lately," said Bates head coach Wynn Hohlt. "This weekend was so big for us. It really lifts our confidence."

Southern Maine (5-8) played Bates (5-6, 2-5 NESCAC) evenly through a scoreless first half, with both teams registering seven shots on goal. But the Bobcats dominated the second half, outshooting the Huskies 17-3.

Bates' first goal was scored by first-year forward Rachel Greenwood (Williamstown, Mass.), off a penalty corner from junior Megan Petry (Crestwood, Ky.) in the 45th minute.

First-year forward Abby Childs (Philadelphia, Pa.) added a second goal three minutes later, off a penalty corner from Greenwood.

Bates' third goal was scored by another first-year forward, Emily Sampson (Playmouth, N.H.), who converted an assist from senior Brooke Anable (Holderness, N.H.) in the 53rd minutes.

The game was a makeup date from Sept. 15.

Bates will host Middlebury College on Oct. 22.
