While competing in the dominant conference in Division III women's lacrosse, the New England Small College Athletic Conference Allen's teams have compiled a 110-109 cumulative record while making frequent appearances in the national rankings.

In 2016, head coach Brett Allen led the Bates women's lacrosse team to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1994 as the Bobcats finished the season with a record of 12-6, the second most wins in program history. He also led them to their first-ever victory in the NESCAC Tournament, a 9-3 win at Colby in the quarterfinals.

Allen was appointed as the head women’s lacrosse coach in 2006 after serving as the team’s assistant coach during the 2005 season and earning appointment as Bates’ head volleyball coach in the summer of 2004. Prior to coming to Bates, Brett was an assistant women’s lacrosse and volleyball coach at Washington and Lee University in Virginia for two years.

Brett currently serves as a Division III IWLCA Regional All-American Committee Chair and is on the NCAA Division III Championship Committee. He is also the Secretary and Awards Chair for the New England Women’s Volleyball Association.
