Sophomore Ryan Nealis (London, U.K.) won the mile in a personal record time of 4:21.72 in the Bates men's track and field team's tri-meet against Colby and MIT on Saturday.

Nealis also took second place in the 800 meters (2:00.84).

"It was a very impressive performance from Ryan," head coach Al Fereshetian said. "He beat an All-American MIT runner in the mile and came back with an excellent performance in the 800, nearly pulling off the win there as well. Both excellent times early in the year on a slow track."

MIT won the team scoring on Saturday, but the Bobcats made it close as the host and No. 4 nationally ranked Engineers outscored Bates 149-140. Colby finished third with 60 points.

"Great day for us today. By far our best effort in this meet ever," Fereshetian said. "Great energy and attitude all day."
