Senior Jacob Goff won the Frederick D. Tootell Memorial Most Valuable Field Athlete Award and the Bates men's track and field team rolled to their fourth straight outdoor state championship, taking first place out of nine schools Saturday at the 123rd annual Maine State Pine Tree Classic. 

Goff scored points for Bates in all three events he competed in at the meet. He won the state title in the shot put, with Goff's winning throw of 50-0 (15.24m) coming on his first attempt. Goff took second place to teammate James Guinee in the Frank Sabasteanski hammer throw, setting a new personal record with a top effort of 169-2 (51.57m). To cap things off, he finished fifth in the discus with a top throw of 132-9 (40.47m).
