Bates sophomore Tyler Harrington took 13th place in the javelin throw, highlighting the first day of the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Harrington (Haverhill, Mass.) launched the javelin 57.60 meters, or 189 feet, on his second of three attempts, which put him in fifth place at the end of the first flight of trials. By the end of the second flight he had slipped to 13th place and missed finals by four places. Harrington was seeded 11th in the event, based on his personal-best mark of 203-4 notched at the New England Division III Championships.
