Senior captain Coley Cannon (Greenwich, Conn.) stepped up for the Bobcats on the big stage, defeating the Engineers' William Wu 3-0 (11-9, 11-7, 11-7) in the Summers Cup quarterfinals at the No. 5 position. Cannon flipped the script from his match earlier in the year against Wu, in which he lost 3-1 on January 23rd.
Although Bates fell 6-3 to MIT, the Bobcats won their final two matches of the weekend, and Cannon swept two more opponents. On Saturday, he defeated Tufts' Connor Wind 3-0 (11-9, 11-5, 11-5) and on Sunday he capped off the weekend with a 3-0 (11-2, 11-6, 11-6) win over Amherst's Pavan Nagaraj.
With the win over Amherst, the Bobcats (11-9) clinched their seventh straight winning season and finished the year ranked No. 21 in the nation and 8th among Division III colleges.
Cannon has a personal record of 13-7 this season and is 53-25 during his career at Bates.
