Bates senior captain Jillian Richardson turned in the 5K of her career on Thursday at the MIT Final Qualifier, winning the event and securing a spot at next week's NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships along the way. 

Richardson (Auburn, Maine) broke 17 minutes for the first time in her collegiate career, racing to the finish in 16:52.53, the second-fastest outdoor 5K in Bates women's track and field history. She now ranks 15th in the country in the event, well within qualifying range for the NCAA Championships.
