Senior Derek Shen set another personal record in the 100 meters and placed fourth out of 28 competitors to lead the Bates men's track and field team Friday and Saturday at the Open New England Championships. Shen placed seventh in the prelims on Friday, earning a spot in the finals with his 100-meter dash time of 10.80 seconds, a new personal record. Then he cut more time on Saturday, placing fourth in the final in a wind-aided time of 10.74 seconds. Shen currently ranks third all-time at Bates in the event.
