Junior captain Katie Hughes (Pittsfield, Maine) led Bates on the second day of the New England Division III Outdoor Championships by posting two career-best performances, taking fourth place in the shot put (39-9) and seventh place in the hammer throw (151-11).

Hughes' hammer throw vaulted her onto Bates' all-time top 10 performances list, into sixth place. She remains fifth on Bates' shot put list after topping her previous best by 10.75 inches.

The Bates women's track and field team clawed its way to an 11th-place finish out of 35 scoring teams and scored 26 points on the final day of the meet, half a point behind 10th-place Tufts and one point ahead of both Westfield State and Bridgewater State.

Bates next competes at all-divisions Open New Englands, taking place Friday and Saturday at Dartmouth College.
