First-year Sequoia Anstine turned in a remarkable performance in the giant slalom, placing 10th out of 79 women to pace Bates alpine skiing Friday at the Saint Michael's Carnival.

After failing to finish her first run in the GS last week at Colby, Anstine (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) burst onto the scene of collegiate ski racing  this week with her two-run combined time of 1:45.57 at Smuggler's Notch, earning the Bobcats 30 carnival points and picking up 26 NCAA points for herself. 

Then on Saturday, she helped the women finish fifth in the slalom, finishing in 25th place with a two-run combined time of 1:50.75, good for 18 carnival points and six NCAA points.
