Bates senior Jack Kiely took seventh place in the men's mile Saturday at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships, earning his first career All-America honor.

Running on the banked track of the Birmingham CrossPlex, Kiely (Severna Park, Md.) finished in 4:12.57, 0.05 behind sixth-place Casey Roberts of Wartburg and 0.03 ahead of Max Brown of Emory. Brown was 0.24 seconds ahead of Washington and Lee's MacKenzye Leroy for the eighth and final All-America spot.

Kiely had qualified for the race with Friday's trial time of 4:13.37. He was seeded eighth going in, based on his season-best time of 4:09.14 run at Boston University two weeks ago.

Kiely becomes Bates' 41st All-American in men's indoor track and field, and the fourth ever in the mile or the 1,500 meters, joining Jamie Goodberlet '85, Matt Twiest '00 and John Stansel '15.
