Eric Wainman took third place in the heptathlon at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships in Winston-Salem, N.C. over the weekend. Wainman (Glastonbury, Conn.) broke his own Bates record in the event by 207 points, with 5,201 and received All-America honors.
Wainman finished the two-day heptathlon as the third runner to cross the finish line in the 1,000 meters, with a time of 2:45.83. He was no lower than eighth in the field of 15 in any of the seven events that comprise the heptathlon. He becomes Bates' first All-American in an indoor "multi" event (pentathlon or heptathlon) and joins decathletes David Hardison '13 and Joe Northrup '05 as Bates' third All-American in a multi event.
