Bates first-year Isabelle Unger led the way for the No. 24 nationally ranked Bates women's cross country team last Saturday, as the Bobcats' second string earned eighth place among 41 teams at the ECAC Division III Championships in Williamstown, Mass.

Unger (Charlotte, Vt.) covered the 6-kilometer course in an even 24:00, good for 20th place among 284 runners in all. Sophomore Erica Gagnon (Weymouth, Mass.) finished 41st overall in 24:38, and was followed by first-year Addie Cullenberg (Farmington, Maine) in 73rd (25:14), first-year Isabel Ferguson (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) in 75th (25:15), junior Merrill Brady (Concord, Mass.) in 87th (25:24) to round out Bates’ scoring. Sophomore Sarah Fusco (Cheshire, Conn.) came in 110th in 26:01 and senior Lisa Reedich (Harvard, Mass.) was 119th in 26:08 to comprise Bates' top seven.

With 281 points, Bates placed between seventh-place Colby (240) and ninth-place William Smith (333). Middlebury placed first.

The Bobcats’ top seven runners this season will compete at the NCAA Division III New England Regionals this Saturday, Nov. 10, at 12pm at Westfield State.
