Senior Andrea Russo (Cheshire, Conn.) went 7-15 at the plate in a 4-1 week for the Bobcats. She scored four runs and drove in three runs, to go along with a double and three walks. Russo delivered the game-winning hit in the softball team's 3-2 win over Trinity on Friday.
The Bobcats started the week with a doubleheader sweep of the University of Southern Maine. In game one, Russo went 2-3 with a run scored, a double, an RBI and a walk in a 6-0 Bates win. In game two, she went 1-3 with two runs scored and a walk in a 6-3 victory.
She followed up her performance against USM with a 1-3 day with a run scored and an RBI in the Bobcats' 4-1 win over the University of Maine-Farmington on Thursday.
After going 1-2 with a walk in game one of Friday's doubleheader against Trinity, Russo capped off her week by going 2-4 with the game-winning hit in the bottom of the seventh inning in Bates' 3-2 victory over the Bantams. The Bobcats trailed 2-1 entering the bottom of the seventh. With one out, first-year Aleah Pagan got the rally started with single through the left side. Fellow first-year Janell Sato doubled her to third and sophomore Mary Collette tied the game with a single to center. Russo stepped to the plate and on a 1-0 pitch, she singled up the middle to win the game.
The Bates softball team is 4-4 in NESCAC play, with four conference games remaining. Russo leads the team in batting average (.371) and On-Base Percentage (.450).
