Luke Matarazzo doesn't always score a lot of points, but the junior captain of Bates' men's basketball team invariably plays a big role in the Bobcats' fortunes.

In Tuesday's game at Saint Joseph's College, Matarazzo scored a lot: 22 points, to be exact, the most by a Bates player in the young season. The 5-foot-9 guard made 8-of-17 shots from the field and added four rebounds and a steal in Bates' 66-54 setback against the Monks, who entered the week as Maine's top-ranked Division III team.

Matarazzo (Shelton, Conn.) entered this week's action averaging 10.8 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game. His 2.2 steals per game led Bates and ties him for third place in the NESCAC in that category.
