Bates junior Gabrielle Sergi (Newburyport, Mass.) remained undefeated in individual competition as the Bates swimming and diving teams traveled to Vermont last weekend for a pair of dual meets at Norwich University and Middlebury College.

In Bates' meet at Norwich on Saturday, Sergi won both the 200-yard freestyle (2:00.80) and 100 backstroke (1:03.26) races, as the Bobcats posted a 224-24 team win over the Cadets.

The following day Bates was at NESCAC rival Middlebury, a traditional Division III power, yet Sergi again came away with a pair of wins for the Bobcats. She first defeated Middlebury’s Lydia Carpenter by .12 seconds, 24.81 to 24.93, in the 50 freestyle. After 3-meter diving took place, Sergi reentered the pool to win the 100 free in 54.73 seconds, .92 ahead of Middlebury’s Courtney Haron.

Sergi and the Bobcats will host Bowdoin on Friday, Jan. 18 at 6pm in their final home meet of the season.
