Sophomore Zach Smith (Waterville, Maine) won the NESCAC javelin throw championship with a top effort of 173-10, earning his second career All-NESCAC honor for a top-three event performance (he placed third in the javelin in 2018). Smith also placed fourth in the discus throw (133-6).

Powered by six all-conference performances for top-three event finishes, the Bates men's track and field team placed fifth out of 11 teams Saturday at the NESCAC Track & Field Championships, marking the Bobcats' 22nd consecutive year placing among the top five teams at the meet.

Bates scored 69 points, 9.5 ahead of sixth-place Bowdoin. Host team Middlebury won the team title with 201 points, with Tufts, Amherst, Williams and Bates rounding out the top five.
