First-year Peabo Knoth recorded a goal and an assist in Bates men’s soccer’s season-opening 2-0 win against Maine Maritime on Sept. 3 to earn the first male Bobcat of the Week honor in 2013-14.

Knoth displayed an impressive level of technical ability in his collegiate debut. The native of Portland, Maine, attacked along the left flank and slid a ball across the box to junior Jonathan Lin to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead in the 61st minute against the Mariners.

The Waynflete High School graduate then put Bates up 2-0 just under 15 minutes later collecting a rebound and sneaking a shot past MMA goalkeeper Jesse Perkins. Knoth placed all three of his shots on goal in the game. The rookie also posed as one of the team’s more dangerous threats against Tufts pacing the team with two shots, one on goal.

Knoth and the Bobcats return to the pitch on Wednesday when the team hosts Bowdoin at 8 p.m. on Garcelon Field in a game honoring the victims of 9/11.
