Senior captain Meredith Kelly scored 26 points in each of two games last week to help the women’s basketball team start the season 1-1 and to capture Bobcat of the Week accolades for the week of Nov. 11-17.

Over the course of two games, Kelly netted 52 points on 21-of-46 shooting from the field as Bates beat Simmons, 84-55, on Nov. 16 and fell to Mount Holyoke, 77-63, on Nov. 15.

In the team’s season opener, the Cohasset, Mass., product hit 10-of-24 shots from the floor and also recorded nine rebounds and four steals while playing just shy of 40 minutes. The next day she made 11-of-22 field goals and connected on two of her four 3-point attempts to pace the Bobcats in their first victory of 2013-14.

For her efforts, the 5-foot-8 guard garnered Maine Player of the Week laurels and took home Mariner Pepsi Challenge All-Tournament Team honors.

After opening this week with a 74-44 win over Husson, Kelly and the Bobcats next play at UMaine-Farmington on Thursday.
