Junior Andrew Briggs won two individual events and helped Bates win a relay to earn male Bobcat of the Week honors for the week of Dec. 2-8 as swimming and diving put forth a strong showing at Division I Maine on Saturday.
A native of York, Maine, Briggs captured the 100-yard individual medley in 55.59 seconds, just ahead of senior teammate Venkatesh Duvvuri (South Orange, N.J.). He followed that performance with a victory in the 200-yard breaststroke clocking in at 2:15.62 with first-year John Chow (Montclair, N.J.) finishing second.
In the 400-yard medley relay, Briggs teamed with first-year Paden Brunault (Orlando, Fla.), junior Matthew Gagne (Winnetka, Ill.), and first-year Mike Connolly (Duxbury, Mass.) to emerge with a winning time of 3:37.62.
On the season, the Berwick Academy product is undefeated in the 50, 100, and 200-yard breaststroke.
Briggs and the Bobcats will take a training trip to Deerfield Beach, Fla., from Dec. 14-22 before returning to action with a home meet against Middlebury on Jan. 5.
