First-year Julia Smachlo won four events in three different freestyle distances and helped the women’s team win the CBB (Colby-Bates-Bowdoin) title over the weekend to gain Bobcat of the Week accolades for the week of Jan. 13-19.

Smachlo also attained CollegeSwimming.com Women’s Division III Swimmer of the Week plaudits for her performances, the website announced on Tuesday.

On Friday against Bowdoin, the Rexford, N.Y., native won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:57.10 and emerged victorious in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:10.57.

The next day in the Colby meet, the Phillips Academy product captured the 500 free again behind a time of 5:11.72 and finished first in the 1000-yard freestyle on the strength of a season-best 10:37.87.

Her efforts aided the women’s side in beating the Polar Bears168-130 and the Mules 203-90 as the team captured its first CBB championship since 2011.

Bates takes this weekend off before resuming competition at Connecticut College on Feb. 1 at 1 p.m.
