Sophomore Ahmed Abdel Khalek raised his record to 17-0 this year with a 3-0 weekend at the CSA Men’s Team Championships helping lead men’s squash to a 2-1 weekend and earning Bobcat of the Week honors for the week of Feb. 10-16.
A Cairo, Egypt, native Abdel Khalek began the tournament with a win over Princeton’s Samuel Kang, 11-6, 5-11, 11-5, 4-11, 11-6, picking up the Bobcats’ lone point in an 8-1 loss to the Tigers and head coach Sean Wilkinson ’08.
The Westminster School product followed that performance on Saturday, sweeping James Kacergis of Navy for the second time this year, 13-11, 11-3, 11-2. Abdel Khalek helped propel Bates to a 7-2 win over the Midshipmen avenging a 5-4 loss to Navy from earlier this season on Jan. 25.
He closed the championship with a 12-10, 7-11, 11-6, 11-8 victory over Kevin Chen of Williams as the Bobcats took down the Ephs for the second time this year. Abdel Khalek beat Chen earlier this year on Feb. 1 at the NESCAC Championships.
Abdek Khalek will look to compete at the CSA Individual Championships hosted by the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia from Feb. 28 to March 2. Last season, he reached the semifinals of the event.
