Senior John Wisener will represent men’s track and field in the pole vault at the 2014 NCAA Division III Indoor Championships after a record-setting performance over the weekend, earning Bobcat of the Week honors for the week of March 3-9.

A product of Ridgewood, N.J., Wisener set a program record in the pole vault, clearing 15 feet, 9.25 inches on Thursday at the Tufts Last Chance Meet. He broke the previous team high mark of 15-6.25 set by Sam Goldstein in 2010.

Wisener enters the championships as the No. 13 seed out of 15 in the pole vault based off his 4.81-meter effort as he makes his first appearance at an NCAA Championship event.

Six other athletes will join Wisener at the meet which runs from Friday through Saturday at the Bob Devaney Sports Center at the University of Nebraska with Nebraska Wesleyan University serving as the host.

Last season Bates sent a record eight athletes to the indoor championships and placed fifth out of 63 scoring teams.
