Women’s lacrosse sophomore Cara Cappellini scored six goals last week, including five in the team’s 12-8 win over Wesleyan, to gain NESCAC Player of the Week and Bobcat of the Week accolades for the week of March 3-9.

On Saturday against the Cardinals, the Manhasset, N.Y., native tallied six points on her five goals and an assist scoring three goals in the second half. She needed just six shots to score her five goals with her one other shot ricocheting off the post.

Cappellini scored twice in the second period’s first three minutes to break a 4-4 tie and give Bates a 6-4 lead. She also recorded two caused turnovers and a draw control in the team’s first NESCAC win of the season.

After missing all of last season due to a knee injury, the Manhasset High School product ranks third on the team this year in both points (10) and goals (nine) while tying for the team lead in caused turnovers (eight).

Cappellini and the Bobcats return to action against Babson on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in a game moved up one day due to weather concerns.
