Softball junior Kelsey Freedman struck out 17 batters against Maine Maritime on Monday, notching game, season, and career records for strikeouts in the process, to gain Bobcat of the Week accolades for the week of April 21-27.

Freedman (Falmouth, Maine) tallied her career-high 17 strikeouts in Bates’ 5-0 game two win over Maine Maritime on April 21 allowing just two hits and three walks over a complete-game seven innings.

The Falmouth High School graduate increased her season strikeout total to 111 and her career mark to 218 – both program records – as she pitched in another five games for the Bobcats on the week.

She also earned the win in Bates’ 6-2 NESCAC victory over Colby on Tuesday, throwing seven innings with seven strikeouts.

At the plate last week, Freedman hit .292 with seven hits including two triples and a double to go with four RBIs and four runs scored. On the season she recorded a .301 batting average, 25 hits, 12 runs, and six doubles.
