Sophomore Brad Rutkin shot a two-day, team-best 158 to help lead Bates men’s golf to a fourth-place finish out of 12 teams at the Bowdoin Invitational and to earn Bobcat of the Week honors for the week of Sept. 1-7.
A native of Great Neck, N.Y., Rutkin shot a 77 on Saturday, the first day of the event, and followed that with an 81 on Sunday to finish in a four-way tie for 16th place among 64 total players at the par-72 Brunswick Golf Course.
The Bobcats who finished at 635 concluded the tournament 10 strokes ahead of fifth-place St. Anselm (645) while also besting Southern Maine (648), Husson (653), Tufts (660), Bowdoin (661), St. Joseph’s (670), Colby (670), and UMaine-Farmington (697).
Last year at the same event, Bates came in 12th out of 13 competing teams.
Next, Bates plays at the UMF Invitational on Thursday prior to the Maine State Championships on Saturday and Sunday.
