Sophomore Chandler McGrath helped Bates volleyball win the SJC Autumn Invitational, taking home tournament MVP honors in the process, to gain Bobcat of the Week accolades for the week of Sept. 1-7.

McGrath led the Bobcats to a 4-0 weekend with a pair of wins over tournament-host St. Joseph’s to go with victories over Husson and Lyndon State.

A native of Seal Beach, Calif., McGrath paced the Bobcats with 2.12 kills per set and 1.38 service aces per set. She also tallied 2.75 digs per set over the three matches in which she played.

The 6-0 middle blocker tallied eight kills in each of the team’s two wins over St. Joseph’s and charted eight aces and 13 digs in the Bobcats’ 3-1 win over the Monks in Bates’ season opener on Friday night.

The Bobcats captured the SJC Autumn Invitational title for the second time in three years after also claiming the tournament crow in 2012. In this year’s championship match, McGrath landed a team-high eight kills to go with seven digs.

Next, Bates begins play in the MIT Invitational with matches against Suffolk and Endicott with both contests taking place at Endicott.
