Bates senior quarterback Matt Cannone delivered one of the best performances in his career to help deliver a 34-28 win over Colby in overtime on Homecoming Saturday. 

Cannone (Windham, N.H.) completed 18 of 32 passes for 203 yards and four touchdowns in the game -- career-highs in all four categories. 

With 32.8 seconds left in the fourth quarter, on fourth and goal at the Colby 3-yard line, Cannone completed a pass to first-year slotback Frank Williams (Brookline, Mass.) on the right side of the end zone. First-year kicker Grant DeWald's (Duxbury, Mass.) kicked the extra point to complete Bates' comeback from a 21-7 deficit and send the game into overtime with a 28-28 tie.

After the Bates defense held Colby to a three-and-out and a missed 42-yard field goal attempt, the Bobcats took over the ball at the Colby 25. On 2nd and 10, Cannone looked off junior receiver Mark Riley (Needham, Mass.) to his left before lofting the ball over the middle to Williams running up the seam. Williams caught the ball inside the 5 and ran in for the game-ending touchdown.

Cannone and the Bobcats can claim the CBB title with a win this Saturday at Bowdoin.
