Kristin Calvo's three 3-pointers in the final 3:27 shot Bates into sudden contention for its 61-60 win over Southern Maine last Tuesday, while it was Molly Brown's virtuoso performance throughout the second half that made the Bobcats' whole comeback from 18 points behind possible.
Brown (South Deerfield, Mass.) scored 18 of her game-high 27 points and grabbed nine of her career-high 11 rebounds in the final 18 1/2 minutes after the perennial powerhouse Huskies had moved ahead of the Bobcats by 18 points.
With six seconds remaining and the Bobcats trailing by a point, Brown made the game-winning jumper from about 16 feet out in the lane. The Huskies couldn't get off a final shot and Bates had defeated USM for the first time since 2010.
In Bates' 2-1 week, the co-captain Brown averaged 14.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.3 steals and 0.7 blocks per game.
