Familiar foes Bates and Bowdoin played to a thrilling 1-1 draw in a NESCAC men's soccer match Wednesday night at Garcelon Field, in a classic hard-fought rivalry game, after Bates first-year Jacob Iwowo's equalizer in the 89th minute.

Down 1-0, Bates evened the game (3-1-1, 1-1-1 NESCAC) during a late assault on the Bowdoin goal. The play was set up by first-year Alex Kovacs (Hopkinton, Mass.) serving the ball into the box from near midfield. Senior Beaufils Kimpolo-Pene (Bronx, N.Y.) skimmed the ball with the top of his head and toward first-year Myles Guerrier (Canton, Mass.), standing with his back to the goal. Guerrier trapped the ball out to Iwowo (London, England), who one-timed a solid left-footed volley into the right side of the net, where Bowdoin keeper Michael Webber had no chance to put a hand on it.

Iwowo's equalizer is the first goal of his collegiate career.
