Junior Emily Gianunzio scored a pair of goals to pace the No. 15 nationally ranked Bates field hockey team to a 4-0 victory over Thomas on Sept. 19. The Bobcats are 4-1 on the young season, their best start since 1995.

Gianunzio gave Bates the lead in the fourth minute. Bates' offense and Thomas's defense had the ball jammed in front of the Terrier goal, with Gianunzio trying to power the ball past Thomas goalie Leah Kruse. Kruse parried away Gianunzio's first jab of a shot, but the junior forward cleaned up with the follow near the right post. 

Gianunzio added her team-high third goal of the season and Bates' fourth goal of the night later in the contest, giving a slight tip to Riley Burns' hard shot from the top of the circle on a penalty corner with 7:42 left in the third quarter.
