The Bates men's cross country team put on a dominating performance in winning its second consecutive Maine State Championship meet Saturday at Bowdoin College, as the Bobcats' top five runners all placed among the top seven overall. But senior captain Allen Sumrall stood out to earn male Bobcat of the Week honors. 

Sumrall (Albuquerque, N.M.) led No. 19 nationally ranked Bates by finishing in second place out of 177 athletes overall, covering the 8-kilometer course in 25:19.5 to nab all-state honors for the second year in a row.

Bates, New England's No. 4-ranked team, next competes at the NESCAC Championships, to be held Oct. 31 at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. Only two conference rivals are currently ranked ahead of the Bobcats in New England, in No. 1 Amherst and No. 2 Williams.
