Over the weekend the Bates men's and women's swimming & diving programs dominated the Maine State Meet, as both teams took first place. The Bates men's team showed tremendous depth in also outscoring Maine for first place despite enjoying only three event wins, all by first-year, and your Male Bobcat of the Week, Alex Bedard, in the 50-, 100-, and 200-yard breaststroke. Bates scored 1,044 points, followed by the Black Bears with 994.5, Bowdoin with 796.5 and Colby with 469.

Bedard (Amherst, N.H.) posted impressive wins in the 50 breast (26.72), where he defeated Maine's Shane Kinnon by 0.36 seconds, and in the 100 breast, where he outkicked Kinnon by 0.71. Bedard made it a trifecta by winning the 200 breast in 2:10.92, 1.35 seconds ahead of Maine's Coulter Morrill.
