Melvin tallied a career-high eight points, including two goals and two assists in an 8-0 first-half run, as the No. 11 nationally ranked Bates men's lacrosse team won 14-10 at No. 19 Endicott College in the season opener for both teams on Wednesday.

With Bates down 4-2, Melvin scored on an assist from Burke Smith to close the gap to 4-3 before the end of the opening quarter. Melvin then tied the game with an unassisted tally in the opening minute of the second quarter, and his second assist of the game led to a goal by Kyle Weber, putting Bates in the lead for good at 5-4 with 13:10 to go in the second. 

Melvin added two more goals in Bates' 12-8 win over Roger Williams on Saturday.

He tallied four ground balls over the weekend as well, helping Bates start the season 2-0 for the first time since 2010.
