Sophomore Bart Rust led the Bobcats at the Oberlin Inter-Regional Rumble with an 11th-place finish out of 339 runners overall, covering the 8-kilometer course in 25:05.5. The No. 17 nationally ranked Bates men's cross country team placed fifth out of 39 teams.

The Bobcats, ranked No. 3 in New England by the USTFCCCA, outraced nine other regionally ranked teams as well as two nationally ranked squads in No. 15 John Carroll (9th) and No. 34 Trine (13th).

No. 21 Berea won the meet with 75 points, followed by No. 11 Otterbein (109), No. 29 Case Western Reserve (125) in third, No. 23 Wisconsin-Stevens Point (147) in fourth and Bates close behind in fifth (159).

Only 35.3 seconds separated Bates' top five runners, the fourth-narrowest spread of the race.

The Bobcats will next compete in the NESCAC Championships, hosted by Williams College on Nov. 2 at Mt. Greylock High School in Williamstown, Mass., with race start at 12pm.
