First-year quarterback Matt Golden (New Bedford, Mass.) came off the bench after an injury to sophomore quarterback Sandy Plashkes (Del Mar, Calif.) in the third quarter and led the Bobcats to a 24-7 victory over Bowdoin to clinch a third consecutive outright CBB series title for Bates.

Golden completed all three of his pass attempts for 48 yards, including a 35-yard touchdown strike to sophomore Marcus Ross (Mansfield, Texas) with 14:10 to go in the game, putting Bates ahead for good. 

He also ran the ball 14 times for 126 yards and a touchdown, including a 65-yard sprint to pay dirt that put the finishing touches on the victory for the Bobcats.
