First-year Hannah Sweeney (Franklin, Mass.) went a combined 6-0 in singles and doubles to help lead the Bates women's tennis team to three straight victories last week, improving the Bobcats' overall record to 5-1 on the season, their best start since 2014.

Sweeney teamed with Lauren Hernandez on Friday to win 8-2 at No. 1 doubles. Then she won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles as Bates defeated Smith College 9-0.

On Saturday, Sweeney and Hernandez won at No. 1 doubles once again, this time by a count of 8-2 against the Mount Holyoke combination of Ching-Ching Huang and Ishita Tibrewal. Then Sweeney defeated Tibrewal 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles to help Bates beat the Lyons 6-3.

Later in the day on Saturday, the Bobcats defeated Wheaton (Mass.) by a count of 6-3 as well. Sweeney and Hernandez won 8-6 at No. 1 doubles and Sweeney prevailed 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 at No. 1 singles to wrap up her perfect week.
