Zach Steigert joined the Bates College sports medicine staff as a certified athletic trainer in August 2026.
Steigert comes to Bates after gaining nearly 1,000 hours of clinical experience at the University of Maine working with Division I student-athletes. His clinical rotations included women’s ice hockey, football, softball and women’s basketball, with additional experience at Hermon High School.
During his clinical rotations, Steigert gained experience in injury evaluation, rehabilitation and injury prevention programming, therapeutic interventions, emergency response and athletic insurance documentation. He also contributed to the Emergency Action Plan for the 2026 America East Softball Tournament and collaborated with athletic trainers, team physicians and other healthcare professionals in providing patient care.
Steigert previously completed an internship with UBE Physical Therapy, assisting with orthopedic and athletic rehabilitation. He also served as head coach of the John Bapst High School swimming and diving program and held several leadership roles with the Bangor YMCA.
A Maine native and graduate of Hampden Academy, Steigert earned his bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and physical education with a concentration in exercise science from the University of Maine in 2023 and his master’s in athletic training from UMaine in 2026.
