Ned Farrington '24 returns to Bates as a volunteer assistant coach in 2026-27.
A team captain and the recipient of the Peter and Lois Doran Award for Track & Field Excellence, Farrington became the first Bates male athlete to earn All-America honors in cross country, indoor, and outdoor track & field in the same school year in 2023-24.
He placed fifth out of 12 runners in the finals of the 1,500 meters at the 2024 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, earning a spot on the podium with his time of 3:52.54. This came on the heels of a fourth-place showing in the Distance Medley Relay at the 2024 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, and his 31st place finish at the 2023 NCAA Cross Country Championships, both of which were also good for All-America honors.
Farrington was named to the College Sports Communicators Men's XC/Track & Field Academic All-District® Team and earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors. He graduated from Bates having set school records in the indoor 5,000 meters (14:21.13) and the outdoor 1,500 meters (3:45.81).
In 2024-25, Farrington used his extra year of collegiate eligbility to compete for the University of Maine, where he set new personal records in the 3,000 meters (8:09.38), the mile (4:03.49), and the 1,000 meters (2:30.38).
