Bates College Director of Athletics Jason Fein announced the appointment of Dan (Danny) Feldman as head coach of the Bobcat men's & women's cross-country programs.

"We are thrilled to welcome Danny to the Bates' family as he prepares to pilot our men's & women's cross-country squads this fall," Fein said. "He has demonstrated a propensity for success throughout his young career, developing student-athletes that are hungry and ready to compete at a national level. Danny is certain to be an influential leader in all facets."

Also joining the Bobcat track & field staff as an assistant coach, the newest member of Bates athletics departs Christopher Newport University where he served as Head Men's & Women's Cross-Country Coach and Assistant Track & Field Coach since July 2019. Located in Newport News, Va., and competing as a member of the Coast to Coast Athletic Conference, Feldman played a vital role in leading both the men's and women's track & field programs to first-place finishes in the C2C Outdoor Conference Championships this past May.

"It is a privilege and honor to be rejoining the NESCAC community as a Bobcat," Feldman said. "There is no doubt in my mind that the Bobcat runners will be contenders at the conference and national stage, and I'm excited to lead them there!"

Having also enjoyed success during the fall cross-country campaign, Feldman's female harriers captured their first XC conference championship since 2016. Nine student-athletes (men & women) achieved All-Region accolades at the NCAA Division III South Regional Championship while a pair of female runners represented CNU at the NCAA National Championship in East Lansing, Mich.

Before his tenure with the Captains, Danny served as an assistant coach/associate head coach at Amherst College from 2017-19, guiding the Mammoths' men's cross-country team to a fourth-place finish at the 2017 national meet.

Under Feldman's tutelage, the Amherst men laid claim to a pair of NESCAC Championship XC crowns while also grabbing the 2018 New England Regional title. On an individual level, Feldman helped coach six All-Americans across both the women's and men's teams during the 2017 and 2018 seasons.

Feldman also made coaching stops at Washington University in St. Louis (2014-15) as an assistant coach and Northern Arizona University (2013-14) as a volunteer assistant before making his way back east.

Also earning extensive experience as a coach at the scholastic level, Feldman oversaw the cross country and track & field programs at Covenant of the Sacred Heart in New York City from 2015-17. During that time, he coached back-to-back runner-up finishes at the New York State Championships while also serving as the conference's track & field commissioner.

Feldman competed as a track & field student-athlete at University of Mary Washington where he earned a bachelor's degree in both business administration and German. He later achieved a master's degree in community health education from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
