Bates College

Alison Leonard '10 was promoted to Associate Head Cross Country/Track & Field Coach (Distance) on July 1, 2026. A four-year member of the Bobcats' cross country program as a student-athlete, Leonard returned to her alma mater to help mentor the next generation of Bates distance runners.

Leonard earned a Bachelor of Arts in history from Bates before completing both a Master of Science in Accounting and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) at Northeastern University in 2012. She has remained active in the running community, including completing two Boston Marathons and volunteering with elite athletes during the 2019 Boston Marathon.

In addition to her coaching experience, Leonard is a National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) Certified Personal Trainer.

The Bates tradition runs deep in the Leonard family. Five members of her family have competed in the College's cross country and track & field programs: her father, Thomas J. Leonard III '78; aunts Kathleen Leonard Williams '81, Milissa Leonard Meyer '83, and Anne Leonard Burwood '87; and her brother, Thomas J. Leonard IV '15.
