Bates women's basketball coach Alison Montgomery announced the hiring of former Navy assistant Jody Burrows as the team's primary assistant coach in September 2021.
"Jody is an incredibly dynamic person, coach and mentor. We are so lucky to have her join our program and our community at Bates” said Montgomery, who served as alongside Burrows as an assistant at the U.S. Naval Academy under former coach Stefanie Pemper.
A standout point guard at Northeastern University in her playing days, Burrows has gone on to an extensive coaching career in college basketball at both the Division I and Division III levels, most recently as an assistant coach for three years at the U.S. Naval Academy from 2013-2016.
Burrows was also associate head women's basketball coach at Case Western Reserve from 2012-2013 and was assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Oberlin College from 2010-2012. She began her coaching career as an assistant at Northeastern during the 2009-10 season.
Burrows graduated cum laude from Northeastern University, with a degree in communications, in 2007. She was a team captain for three seasons, and ranks fifth in program history in assists (382) and second in assist average.
At Navy, Burrows helped the Midshipmen set a school record for wins in a season, with a 24-8 mark in 2014. She was responsible for on-court development, travel logistics and film exchanges, and was the team's liaison for both strength and conditioning and community service.
In her one year at Case Western, she helped the program to its highest win total (16) in over a decade.
At Oberlin, Burrows coached Christina Marquette, whom Burrows has now replaced as Bates' assistant coach after five years. Marquette moved on from Bates to become director of player personnel and recruiting at the University of Michigan.
Since 2017, Burrows had been the director of tours with STUDENTathleteWorld Tours, an international travel program that specializes in world travel for athletes to represent the USA and compete abroad.
