Bates head rowing coach Peter Steenstra announced the addition of Catie Flynn to his staff as assistant women's coach & recruiting coordinator for the 2023-24 campaign.
Flynn spent two seasons with the Bobcats before leaving following the spring of 2025.
"What stood out about Catie through the interview process was her positivity and genuine honesty," Steenstra said. Her rowing experience at the NCAA Division I level has provided her a terrific foundation that she'll easily apply to the coaching and recruiting responsibilities here at Division III."
Flynn's passion for the sport of rowing developed while competing for the first time in the eighth grade at Boston Latin School. Since that first experience, she has rowed every summer, fall, winter, and spring since, gaining experience in small boats, eights, sculling, sweeping, port, and starboard. A two-year captain for the Boston Latin team, Flynn's successes earned her the opportunity to compete at Holy Cross University in Worcester, Mass.
Catie is thrilled to not only be staying involved with the sport, but to be able to have a direct impact on inspiring student-athletes as they "fall in love" with the sport like her coaches did for her.
"I am incredibly grateful and very excited to be joining the coaching staff for such a competitive and uplifting program," Flynn said. "Bates Rowing is made up of an amazing group of compassionate and competitive student- athletes, guided with great leadership by Peter Steenstra. I am looking forward to working on the Androscoggin (River) with this group!"
