Bates men's soccer head coach,
Ben Brewster, has announced the addition of
Amo Houghton to his staff as assistant coach.
"I am thrilled to welcome Amo to the Bates Men's Soccer coaching staff," said Brewster. "His impressive playing background, as well as his experience coaching and recruiting in Maine, tactical knowledge, and his ability to connect with the student-athletes will be valuable assets to help Bates Men's Soccer reach its goals ... Welcome, Amo!"
Houghton joins the garnet and white after one season as head coach at Southern Maine Community College where he led the Seawolves to an 11-3-1 overall record and a Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) finals appearance. Under Houghton's leadership, SMCC saw three players land on the YSCC All-Conference team, while two earned United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) All-American selections.
"I'd like to thank Coach Brewster and the athletic administration for providing me the opportunity to represent Bates College," said Houghton. "The chance to compete in the always-challenging NESCAC is exciting. I am looking forward to getting to know the team and to putting our best foot forward in the fall ... Go, Bobcats!
Prior to his tenure at SMCC, Houghton served as an assistant coach with St. Joseph's College (Maine) and Aurora University (Ill.), both NCAA Division III programs, as well as with Division I University of Massachusetts. Amo also completed head coaching stints at the club level with Seacoast United (Maine) and Campton United (Ill.).
Hailing from Cape Elizabeth, Maine, Houghton played his collegiate soccer at Division II Franklin Pierce University (N.H.), where he helped lead the Ravens to a national Final Four appearance and the best record in program history (21-1-1) his junior season (2011). He was appointed team captain prior to his senior campaign.
Possessing his USSF C, D, and E licenses, Houghton earned his bachelor's degree in business administration from Franklin Pierce (2013) and his MBA from Aurora (2019).
