Ian Wagge

This will be Ian’s sixth year with the Bobcats. He brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience to the Bates field hockey program. He is a veteran of the USA men’s Masters team having played in six outdoor and three indoor world cups.

Ian grew up in England where he learned the game, playing at high school, university, club and regional levels before moving to the USA in 1999. Initially based in Phoenix, he was involved in playing and coaching with the Arizona State University Sun Devils.

In 2010 he became a US citizen and in 2017 moved to Maine for work. In early 2023 Ian retired from his career in IT to do what he enjoys the most, following his passion for field hockey.

Ian is a USFHA Level III coach and a Level II Umpire. Outside of his duties at Bates, he assists with umpire and coach education.

He umpires regional club and national club championships and just returned from managing the USA Junior Men's National team in the 2025 Junior Pan Am Games in Paraguay.
