Herbert B. Taylor '84

Herb Taylor '84 proves that pieces of the whole need not diverge, but can come together with satisfaction.

In basketball, point guard Herbert B. Taylor '84 could both score and assist, and he is the still the career leader in the latter category. In Bates student life overall, he excelled in both sports and academics, the latter as a Phi Beta Kappa graduate in economics who earned high honors for this thesis, "The Future of Banking." An Academic All-American, he twice earned a perfect 4.0 grade average and won the Milton Lindholm Scholar-Athlete Award and an NCAA postgraduate scholarship. Today, he is both an ordained minister and a business professional. Having earned his M.B.A. from Harvard Business School and master of divinity degree from Boston University School of Theology, he is chief executive officer of the New England Deaconess Association, which operates skilled nursing, residential care and independent living communities. He lives in Concord, N.H., with wife Sarah and their two children. Indeed, the Rev. Herb Taylor has shown again and again that pieces of the whole need not diverge, but can come together with satisfaction and harmony for mind, body and soul.
